Feinkost & Löffelfamilie (the spoon family)

Short facts

The iconic illuminated advertising "Löffelfamilie" is a remnant of the Feinkost delicatessen ground's eventful history, which is now a popular meeting place.

The Löffelfamilie (the spoon family) is an essential part of Leipzig's Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. Under the illuminated advertising are a beer garden and regular flea markets. This is also where the Feinkost summer cinema takes place. The area of today's delicatessen was opened in the late 19th century as a brewery and later became a food production plant. After the Second World War, the canning production of the state-owned Feinkost company moved into the premises, marking the birth of the iconic Löffelfamilie. As part of the GDR party's initiative "Leipzig - City of Water and Light", this neon sign, along with many other neon signs in the city, are now part of the listed cultural heritage and in the hearts of Leipzigers.
