South of the Dahlen Heath in Zeuckritz, you can find an old gable mill that was in operation until 1954. Its construction and operation were extremely simple. The purely static construction is made up of a trestle with pillars. The windmill box sits on the trestle connected by the sheers and is attached to the milling post. Through this, the rotation of the body of the windmill around the post is made possible. This happens manually, more precisely with the wind, with the help of the protruding tail pole The body of the 2-story windmill is closed at the top by a gabled roof. The mill can be viewed upon telephone arrangement with the municipality of Cavertitz.
History of the Mill:
before 1800 - mill construction
1864 - burnt down and rebuilt
since 1888 - owned by the Hofmann family
from 1936 - Walter Hofmann operates the facility
1947 - electronic motor installed
1957 - Mill annexed onto the residential house on the edge of Zeuckritz
1962 - mill shut down
1972 - mill transferred to Wolfgang Dittrich, who later transferred it to the LPG Dahlen
1994 - The municipality of Cavertitz takes over the mill and renovates it in the following years with donations and subsidies.
