Deep in the south of the Leipzig district, behind the new lakes, a lovely landscape opens up. Small towns with old town centers, villages immersed in greenery and, in some places, orchards that have become rare dominate the picture.
In the middle, between the Kohrener Land and the Rochlitzer Muldental, lies the small town of Geithain. With this convenient location, Geithain is the ideal starting point for excursions and for leisurely exploration. After all, the traveling hiker, with or without a bike, can get here from Chemnitz and Leipzig in half an hour, with a motorway junction almost right outside the city gates.
The attractive town centre, with its well-kept shops, is perfect for a shopping spree. It takes a long walk to walk around the town, along the almost completely preserved town wall. Idyllic views open up again and again. On the north side, the path leads through the listed park. This includes the animal enclosure with a playground. Entering the town through the old gate on the west side feels like a journey back in time. This feeling lasts for a while, even if a guided tour of the underground passages follows.
Geithain is not sensational, but ideal for a leisurely trip, enjoyable shopping and the good life.
