It offers optimal conditions for nature-based teaching and encounters with flora and fauna. It is also suitable for a wide range of activities involving the raw material Rochlitz porphyry tuff and other materials, combined with the history of technology, industrial culture, crafts and art.
From April to October, the Geoportal Porphyrhaus serves as an outpost of the "Rochlitzer Muldental" tourist information center. Then, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 15 p.m., there is information about the region and interesting facts about the formation, mining and use of Rochlitz porphyry tuff. New from 2024 are changing exhibitions that are also intended to invite hikers from the area to stop by the Porphyrhaus from time to time. Visitors can also use virtual reality to take a "leap back in time" into the mining history of porphyry tuff in the Gleisbergbruch. From Easter 2024, use will be possible by prior arrangement on certain action days or as part of a porphyry tour.
