The pub mile around Gottschedstrasse, the so-called "theater quarter", which was named after the writer Johann Christoph Gottsched, came about more or less by chance. After the opening of the "Maga Pon" pub-laundry mix in the early 1990s, many trendy hangouts settled in the surrounding buildings, most of which were in dire need of renovation, not far from St. Thomas Church.
There are now two discotheques on the street. Due to their proximity to the Leipzig Theater, the venues quickly became a daily meeting place for a stage audience. The outdoor seating is particularly inviting in the warmer months.
