The late-classical building directly on the market dates from the middle of the 19th century and is today one of the last examples of the passage building of the trade fair. The former "Kaufhalle am Markt" once comprised 41 sales outlets that were located along the passage to Klostergasse.
After extensive renovation work, the newly named Handwerkerpassage was inaugurated, and the unique window cleaner fountain was also installed. During further renovation of the front building in 1997 and 1998, the entrances to Barfußgäßchen and today's Marktgalerie were created.
