Leipzig Bach Competition
The Leipzig Bach Competition is one of the world's most important competitions for young classical musicians. Named after Johann Sebastian Bach, who was Cantor of St. Thomas' Church in Leipzig from 1723 to 1750, the international competition, which was first held in 1950, stands for musical excellence at the highest level.
Since 2025, the Leipzig Bach Competition has been held annually in March in different categories. The focus is on exploring the work of the famous Thomaskantor. Participants from all over the world present their skills to an international jury and an interested audience. The competition rounds are held at renowned Leipzig venues such as the Thomaskirche and the Lutherkirche. The highlight is the finale with the subsequent award ceremony on March 21, the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach. The final concert will be broadcast worldwide via livestream.
