On the southern side of Leipzig Market is the Königshaus, whose arcade enhances the building with a large number of shops.
The Königshaus at the market owes its baroque façade to a reconstruction in the years 1706 and 1707. During the 18th century the Saxon rulers, especially August the Strong, stayed here regularly during the fairs. Personalities like the Russian Tsar Peter the Great and Napoleon also stayed in the Königshaus.
In 1932, the Leipzig architect Curt Schiemichen integrated the arcade into the building, which was converted into a trade fair venue.
