description: "Leisnig, with its medieval flair and broad culture, is located in Saxony's largest fruit-growing region. The first fruit trees, vegetables and medicinal plants were cultivated in the surrounding monastery gardens as early as the Middle Ages. A mild climate, balanced rainfall and the fertile soils of the floodplains have always favored fruit growing, the more than 800-year-old tradition of which is still continued today in the \"fruit country\". The extensive orchards, large warehouses and wine presses are always popular with visitors, who enjoy tasting the regional produce. The Reformation arrived in Leisnig very early on. In the town church of St. Matthäi, people were already preaching according to the reformer's teachings in 1519 - just two years after Luther posted his theses. The clergy no longer wanted to be administered by the Buch monastery, and it was also necessary to take care of the runaway monks, provide them with start-up capital and devote themselves to other social tasks. At the request of the citizens of Leisnig, Martin Luther stayed in the town estate for several days in 1522 and 1523. This resulted in the famous \"Leisnig Caste Order\", the oldest social document in the world. This can be seen in the new permanent exhibition, the Luther Room. In addition to the work of Luther and the effects of the Reformation in the region, the development of church music is also highlighted here."

Leisnig, with its medieval flair, is located in the middle of Saxony's largest fruit-growing region.

Mildenstein Castle is one of the oldest castles in Saxony and was probably built in the 10th century. The massive walls, which have towered over the valley of the Freiberg Mulde for 1000 years, can be seen from afar. The family-friendly permanent exhibition on the history of the castle appeals to both young and old castle enthusiasts. The world's largest top boot can be admired in the neighboring boot museum. The former Cistercian monastery in Klosterbuch hosts cultural events and exhibitions in addition to the popular regular farmers' markets.
