The first public school in Leipzig is today one of the city’s most important cultural monuments.
As the first municipal school in Leipzig, the Old Nikolai School at Nikolaikirchhof is one of the city's most valuable cultural monuments. It first began operating in 1512.

Great personalities such as Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, Johann Gottfried Seume and Richard Wagner attended school here. Today you can visit the permanent exhibition “The young Richard Wagner from 1813 to 1834” and immerse yourself in the musical history of Leipzig.
The permanent exhibition on Richard Wagner documents the life of one of his most famous students.
