One of Geithain's landmarks is the Pulverturn ("Powder Tower"), formerly the "free tower". It is all that's left of the former 12th century free courtyard and part of the city wall surrounding the whole town. It was mainly used as a watchtower to protect the city, as it was possible to observe the enemy at quite a distance from there.
