Reclam Museum
Since October 24, 2018, the Reclam Museum in Leipzig's Grafisches Viertel has been welcoming all lovers and readers of the traditional Reclam notebooks. Museum director Hans-Jochen Marquardt has put together an impressive collection of books on around 50 square meters in the basement of Kreuzstraße 12. There are rarities as well as some of the first publications of Reclam's Universal Library. Curiosities from Reclam, special series and precious autographs by Thomas Mann and Herman Hesse are also on display. The museum director's private collection was amassed in part through trips to places such as Prague, Budapest and Namibia. Marquardt's passion for collecting also goes back to the fact that his father, Hans Marquardt, was head of the Reclam publishing house in the GDR from 1961 to 1987. The permanent exhibition therefore also reflects the history of the publishing house and its division into two parts.
