The Reformed Church in Leipzig and its parish centre are the first example of a church and parsonage complex designed as a unified whole.

The neo-Renaissance-style community center, designed by architects Gerhard Weidenbach and Richard Tschammer, is considered the first example of a unified construction of a church and neighbouring preacher's house. The design for this was awarded first prize at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900.
Churches at this time were mostly free-standing buildings and rarely integrated into a block of houses. On Tröndlingring to the north of the historic city center however, all these normalities were discarded and the first church was built in 1896 by 1899, combining the preacher's house and church in one building. It features a 67-metre-high tower and decorative elements such as bay windows, canopies, balustrades and balconies.

The church was severely damaged during the heavy bombing raid on Leipzig on the night of 4 December 1943. Reconstruction was completed in 1969, but the church had already been used for services again since 1950. In 1989, the congregation took an active part in the Peaceful Revolution. As the first church after the Nikolaikirche, prayers for peace began here on October 2. On October 9, the demonstration was secretly filmed from the church tower. A day later, these images were shown on television.
