The former home of the Schumanns includes a permanent exhibition informing about the life of the two famous musicians.
The former home of the composer couple Robert and Clara Schumann is one of the few examples of classicist architecture preserved in Leipzig. A permanent exhibition in the historical living rooms on the first floor tells you about the life and work of the artist couple in Leipzig.
You can play in Robert Schumann's former study, where he composed the world-famous "Spring Symphony". In addition, concerts and readings are regularly held in the faithfully restored "Schumann Hall". The Schumann House is considered a real gem among the concert halls in Leipzig. The Music room in the Biedermeier style enriches the museum with a sound installation by the artist Erwin Stache. The objects can and should be used and played on by the visitor. Each and every item has a personal or technical connection with the time in which the Schumanns lived.
To commemorate Clara's 200th birthday, the museum was redesigned and expanded: the exhibition curated by Dr Beatrix Borchard and opening at the Schumannhaus on September 14 2019 is titled "Experiment of an artist marriage" and explores the shared life of the artist couple for the first time.
The museum in the Schumann House offers something very special for children - the play area, which combines nature, play and music
