Short facts

In 1114, the cathedral was sanctified in honour of the Virgin Mary and now allows visitors to marvel at its Jemlich Organ.

In 1114, the cathedral was sanctified in honour of the Virgin Mary. In 1260, the extension of the eastern chancel took place. After the reformation of the church, Lutheran services took place in the cathedral from 1542. At this time, the interior decoration was converted. On the northern and souther sides, galleries were built in 1555 and 1593, which were later removed. In 1817, it was converted into a late-Gothic style. The current impression is shaped by the expressionist bronze work of Georg Wrba, 1931/32. On the western side of the nave is the Jemlich Organ from 1931/32.

The oldest predecessor instrument in St. Marien can be traced back to 1503. More instruments of different sizes were seized by 1931/32, and in conjunction with the historicising redevelopment of the interior by the Brother Jemlich Company of Dresden, a new organ was built with electro-pneumatic action and movable console. III/44. The exposed pipe front conforms to the design concept of the new interior design. 1998 - 2001/07 a general maintenance of the church was undertaken by the company of Christian Reinhold of Bernsdorf. In this time, the specification was partly changed, i.e extended. The organ currently has 48 stops over three manuals and seven permanently coupled pedal stops.
