Discover the church where Martin Luther gave several sermons!
The first Marienkapelle (Chapel of the Virgin Mary) was built here in 940 before the gates to the Burgward. The expansion into a three-nave late-Gothic hall church was started in 1516 and ended at the highpoint of the Reformation in 1522. During his numerous stays, Martin Luther preached here several times - in 1522,1536 and 1545. Most of the church's interior decoration dates back to the first half of the 17th century. The historically valuable and remarkably large Conrad Geißler organ, with its neo-Gothic façade, is also a worthwhile experience. It found its place here in 1864 and is still used today for concerts and religious services.
