Strohsack Arcade (Nikolaistraße / Ritterstraße)

Short facts

The commercial building with the Strohsack Arcade houses numerous restaurants, shops and the Leipziger Funzel cabaret.

Mushroom-shaped metal columns, which notably tower upwards, are the hallmark of the Strohsack arcade. Since the new commercial building with its arcade was opened in 1997, and restaurants, shops, a walk-in clock and the cabaret Leipziger Funzel have been united under one roof. The arcade owes its name, Strohsack, to the community centre at Ritterstraße 7, which has been integrated into the commercial building complex.

Europe's largest floor clock, whose hands depict a male and a female figure, is a special feature. It is fully functional and accessible. In the middle is a 13-metre-high atrium, which is enhanced by numerous sculptures.
