Bad Lausick Spa Park with "butterfly" outdoor stage
English-style spa park
The 16-hectare spa park was created around 1880 in the English style. It captivates visitors with its lovely, sizeable and old selection of trees. Large rhododendron bushes add touches of colour in the spring. The rose garden is particularly beautiful in summer, when the plants are in bloom. Its several benches and redesigned groups of puttos, set under a pergola, make it a perfect place for whiling away some time. The autumnal colouring of the leaves on the trees adds a touch of magic to the atmosphere, though even when covered in snow, this spa park holds an undeniable charm of its own.
The central focus of the park is its "butterfly" open-air stage. It was dubbed as such by visitors and Bad Lausick locals alike, as a result of its unusual shape. It was inaugurated on the occasion of the town's 900th birthday celebration in June 1996 and since then, events have been held there on an annual basis, at the beginning of the open air season spa concerts. Larger events, such as the annual "Brunnenfest" (fountain festival) - during which the spa park is illuminated by a thousand small lanterns - are held in the concert pavilion too.
The pavilion extends to a maximum height of 8 metres and a surface area of 54 x 65 metres. Beneath the wings of the "butterfly", two stages, changing rooms for artists, a refreshment stand, warehouse rooms, and a bathroom with disabled access can be found.
