Rochsburg Castle
Fairytale Castle at the Zwickau Mulde
Situated on a spur in the middle of a nature reserve, the Rochsburg, which was first documented in 1190, keeps a watch over the Mulde valley. As one of the first true castles, the fairytale-esque building seems to transcend space and time.
The popular excursion destination has housed a museum since 1911, inviting visitors to discover the building's 800 years of history up close. Representative rooms show how people once lived here. In the permanent exhibition, "Leute machen Kleider (people make clothing)", you can admire 52 selected examples from 1,000 years of fashion history, as well as what used to be worn underneath the clothes.
Throughout the year, an exciting events programme awaits visitors of all ages. In addition, the castle's small ballroom doubles as a romantic backdrop for wedding ceremonies.
Plenty of enjoyment can be had at Rochsburg castle: In the local chocolate factory, "Choco Del Sol", visitors can experience Rochsburg's sweeter side.
There is a large parking area (subject to charge) for cars and buses just in front of the castle. From there, Rochsburg is about five minutes away by foot.
Accessibility information
There is only restricted wheelchair access at the entrance to the grounds of the castle. After prior consultation, it is possible to reach the lower courtyard. Upon arrangement, Rochsburg Castle offers tours for the blind and visually impaired. Outside, there is a tactile model of the castle, as well as several information plaques with braille.
