Between the Mulde and the Hohburg Mountains
The municipality of Thallwitz is located in the northernmost tip of the Saxonian "Burgenland" (castle region). It is bordered in the west by the Mulde river and in the east by the Hohburg Mountains. The highest elevation is Gaudlitzberg at 223 m above sea level. The small Lossa river meanders through the heart of the area. You can explore the community along the many marked cycling and hiking trails.
The "KulturGUT" is located in the centre of Thallwitz. It belongs to the former Thallwitz feudal estate, which was extensively renovated in 2000. The ancient, rustic stonework buildings serve as a banqueting hall for various events and can also be rented for private festivities. It can accommodate 100 - 200 guests. The Röcknitz Manor House is also an enchanting destination for events with up to 80 people. Individual celebrations can also be held in several other rooms. The Manor House is also one of four geoportals in the Porphyrland Geopark, which provide information on the surrounding region and its geological, cultural-historical and archaeological features, all of which are of regional and national importance, rarity and beauty.
The Canitz Park extends across a total area of approx. 4 hectares. Here, former agricultural buildings were extensively renovated in accordance with historical preservation standards. At the same time, replicas of Slav and Teuton dwellings, a Neolithic longhouse, as well as the associated fields, theme gardens, natural gardens and a children's garden were created. New uses have created nature and landscape-related gardens and parks, in which the area's ancient cultural heritage has been restored and revived. There is a museum in the heart of the park. The building consists of 3 floors spread over 470 m², and includes exhibitions on the history of settlements in the Mulde-Parthe area, exhibitions on forest and nature conservation in the central Mulde area, on drinking water protection and the production of drinking water, and an exhibition by the "Naturschutzbund Sachsen" (Nature Conservation Association of Saxony).
