Exhibition on the eventful history of the Muldestadt

Eilenburg City Museum ©SV Eilenburg

In the traditional "Roter Hirsch", the Eilenburger Museum presents the eventful 1055-year-old history of the Mulde town. On the upper floor of the former high-class hostel, testimonies of Eilenburg's past, from the earliest settlement findings to the present day, are displayed in the ambience of the era. An impressive collection of historical dolls, doll's houses and their inhabitants has found its place in the attic. A side wing houses an original classroom from the 1920s. Upon request, school classes like the ones in the past are held here, which are particularly interesting for school reunions and current pupils.

The museum also looks after the gigantic Bergkeller facilities. Guided tours for groups, school classes, children's birthday party, adults or mixed groups are possible at any time upon arrangement.

For the 400th time the beginning of the devastating Thirty Years' War is commemorated on 23 May 2018. At the very centre of what was happening at the time: Leipzig and its surroundings. Here, the huge open battles, sieges and in many places, the battles between the numerous rival camps took place.

When in September 1631, the protestant Armies of King Gustav II. Adolf von Schweden and elector Johann Georg I. federated, they defeated the imperial-logistic armies under Tilly. A decisive point in the course of the conflict: Gustav Adolf could now make his triumphant ascent of the German throne and along with it secured the survival of protestantism.

In 1646, peace was declared for electoral Saxony in Eilenburg - which also led to pace is Westphalia in 1648. A defining era - far beyond the region. The planned exhibitions are intended to commemorate these events. To pay tribute, to remember and also to shake up.
