© Mittelsächsischer Kultursommer eV

In 2019, unique sound experiences will take place in the Leipzig region under the title "BurgenLandKlänge" at culturally and historically valuable locations. Visitors can look forward to medieval sounds, classical concerts, musical theater or Celtic folk music. What's special: The events take place in unusual locations such as historic castles, palaces, churches and monastery ruins or in fascinating natural settings such as disused quarries or on rock faces.

In total, there will be over 2019 events at thirteen special locations in 50. An overview of the highlights and selected organizers is provided in the brochure "BurgenLandKlänge 2019", published by Leipzig Tourismus und Marketing GmbH. It is available free of charge from the Leipzig Tourist Information (Katharinenstraße 8) and at the participating event locations.

One of these special venues is the Trebsen manor. The stately complex is home to medieval festivals, blues nights, rock'n'roll weekends and folk music events as part of the "BurgenLandKlänge 2019" festival. The Nimbschen monastery near Grimma also exudes a very special flair. The historic monastery ruins offer space for events such as the Ope(r)n Air by the Deutsche Bläserakademie GmbH. Kriebstein Castle, the most beautiful knight's castle in Saxony, also offers visitors a variety of music events all year round. Not far from the castle is the Kriebstein lake stage, which is a treat for the ears and eyes. Saxony's only lake stage is located on the north bank of the Kriebstein dam and is embedded in a fascinating landscape. The Central Saxon Cultural Summer Association provides musical and cultural entertainment.

Another unusual venue is the Kössern hunting lodge, built in 1709. In the baroque ambience of the ballroom, voices and instruments are perfectly presented. A former quarry on the Rochlitzer Berg and the “Kreuzfelsen” rock massif in Waldheim also provide a unique backdrop for open-air events as part of the “BurgenLandKlänge” festival. Summer night concerts and musical excursions into the world of the Celts also take place in the over 800-year-old Rochsburg Castle.

The main regional attraction of the event series is Colditz Castle, which became famous as a prisoner of war camp during the Second World War. In addition to the monthly Blüthner concert series "Colditz Classic", there are also jazz, pop and song evenings at Colditz in the summer.

Other special venues for the “BurgenLandKlänge 2019” are Rochlitz Castle, the Schmetterling open-air stage in the Bad Lausick spa park, Buch Monastery and St. Matthäi Leisnig Church, the Gut Gödelitz country guest house and the traditional Döbeln Theater.

The Saxon Burgenland is part of the new, large Leipzig tourism region. What is distinctive about this area is the above-average density of imposing castles, magnificent palaces and manor houses embedded in an attractive natural and river landscape. Small towns with medieval town centers, old monasteries, magnificent manor houses, extensive parks and countless museums and galleries are waiting to be discovered. Visitors can experience traditional crafts and enjoy the varied river landscape of the Mulde in the Leipzig - Chemnitz - Dresden city triangle.
