Goodbye autumn blues – Six tips for a wellness weekend in the Leipzig region

© Meri Sauna

Outside, the rain is pouring down, the autumn wind is blowing the leaves off the trees, it's grey and cold - high time to do something good for your body and soul! You don't have to travel far for a short break with a relaxing factor, because the Leipzig region offers ideal conditions for combining a city trip with wellness.

The city and its surrounding area boast cultural diversity, attractive nature and a wide range of recreational activities. Here is a selection of six destinations for relaxing wellness trips that can be reached from Leipzig in a maximum of one hour's drive.

Immerse yourself and feel good in the sauna in the lake

For sauna lovers, there is a very special highlight in the southern Leipzig New Lake District: the sauna in the lake, which is literally located in Lake Cospuden. Built on 16 pillars above the water, it can only be reached via a specially constructed jetty at Zöbigker Harbor. Lake Cospuden is one of Leipzig's most popular recreational destinations, also due to its proximity to the city. Restaurants and passenger boats at the harbor invite you to linger and explore.

Those seeking relaxation can choose between a panoramic sauna, herbal sauna, harbor sauna and a tropical bath with saline nebulization when visiting the sauna in the lake. Russian sauna flair is created during the Wenik ritual, in which soaked birch rods are poured with an anti-inflammatory birch broth. After sweating, you can cool off via the sauna's own entrance directly into the crystal-clear water of Lake Cospuden - and this is possible at any time of year! A special wellness experience is the hot water tub in the outdoor area, which can accommodate up to four people. The far-reaching view of the lake is free, but the unusual treatments such as the hop bath ritual are booked separately. Dark double bock beer is added to the bath water. The substances in the barley juice have a detoxifying effect and stimulate cell metabolism. To ensure that the sense of taste is not neglected, bock beer and fresh bread with sausages are served. In the herbal bath, on the other hand, a fresh herbal brew with essential oils is added to the bath water. There is also a plate of lard bread, herbal teas and tea. Afterwards, you can snuggle up in your bathrobe in front of the fireplace in the relaxation room and enjoy the sunset through the large panoramic windows. Various massage options and a small restaurant round off the offer. Relaxation for body and soul!

From hot to cold: Everything for your well-being in the Meri Sauna at Kulkwitzer See

The Meri Sauna is located on Lake Kulkwitz, around 14 kilometers west of Leipzig. The maritime wellness oasis offers an all-round wellness package for those seeking peace and relaxation with its saunas. In addition to the herbal sauna, sanarium and steam sauna indoors, guests can also use an earth sauna, event sauna and the Maximus sauna outdoors. The latter is equipped with the Maximus experience oven, which automatically produces an infusion with light effects every half hour. The saunas are idyllically embedded in a natural garden with a swimming pond, which can also be used to cool off. There is also an outdoor shower and various experience showers indoors. You can then relax in the stylish relaxation rooms or the lawns on the sandy beach in the garden.

Various health-promoting massage treatments complete the holistic offer of the Meri Sauna. A wellness treatment of a different kind is a visit to the cold chamber. You spend around three minutes in -85 °C. This frosty whole-body therapy originated in Japan in the early 1980s and is used for muscle and joint disorders, neurodermatitis and depression, among other things. The Tuli and Meri restaurants provide culinary delights; the latter can also be used by external guests. Both restaurants have an atmospheric outdoor terrace and offer regional dishes refined with herbs from the sauna's own garden.
