Leipzig Bachfest
The Leipzig Bach Festival is one of the most important music festivals honoring Johann Sebastian Bach. A fixture of Leipzig's event calendar, the festival commemorates the composer each June; he served as Thomaskantor in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750.
The annually changing theme always offers new perspectives on Bach's life and work. The festival features around 200 events, including oratorios, cantatas, organ concerts, chamber music, and contemporary works. The program is complemented by lectures, guided tours, and other cultural offerings. Key venues include St. Thomas Church, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, St. Nicholas Church, and the BachStage on Leipzig's market square.
With its diverse program, the Bach Festival shapes the Leipzig summer and attracts thousands of guests from home and abroad every year.
