The Peaceful Revolution of 1989 shaped Leipzig like almost no other event in the city's recent history and made the city a symbol of courage and change.
Every Saturday, the museum in the "Runde Ecke" offers a guided tour of the most important sites of the Peaceful Revolution in Leipzig. The tour, "In the Footsteps of the Peaceful Revolution," commemorates the historical events of 1989 at key locations in Leipzig's city center, bringing contemporary history to life at authentic sites and making it tangible and relatable.
The tour leads, among other places, to St. Nicholas Churchyard, where the call for freedom was already heard in the spring of 1989, then on to Augustusplatz, the site of the large mass rallies in the autumn, and along the Leipzig Ring, the march route of the demonstrations at that time. Furthermore, the development of Leipzig since 1989 is discussed.
The city tour starts every Saturday at 14 pm at the main portal of St. Nicholas Church.
