You can get to the bottom of Egypt's ancient culture through the large collection of the Egyptian Museum at the University of Leipzig. The exhibition in the Krochhochhaus presents a complete overview of four thousand years of ancient Egyptian culture with around 7.000 objects. These include originals of various genres such as statues, reliefs, coffins, funerary statuettes (shabti), stone and clay vessels.
One of the most important exhibits in the museum is the coffin of Hedbastiru (ca. 500 - 300 BC), which was purchased by Gustav Seyffarth for the university in 1843 and is also the first piece in the large collection.
