The city park in Eilenburg includes the zoo, a playground and the swan pond and was founded in 1870 by Wilhelm Ferdinand Mitscherlich. The total area is 12 hectares and offers peace and relaxation in a location close to the city center. There are 1200 to 1300 trees. The rose garden, located directly next to the train station, was created in 1932/1933 as part of a job creation measure during the Great Depression. The design idea is said to have come from Edwin Köhler, who later became a long-time city gardener.
