The benefits are described under "Good to know/Further price information".Today's University of Music and Theatre was founded in 1843 by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847) as the first higher education institution for music in Germany. It is the most traditional music training institution in Germany and one of the most renowned conservatories in Europe. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy worked in Leipzig for a total of 12 years and is considered one of the most important Leipzig Gewandhaus conductors. He fundamentally reformed musical life in Leipzig.

In addition, the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre (HMT) has a large second building at Dittrichring 21. Just as it did at the time of its founding, the HMT functions as a training ground for talent, including for the famous Gewandhausorchester, which is one of the leading orchestras in the world.
Around 1200 young people from all over the world study at the university in 12 different disciplines and institutes.
The HMT offers around 600 public events a year with concerts, operas, plays, jazz events and much more.
