The advantages are described under "Good to know/Price information".

The present-day University of Music and Theatre was founded in 1843 as the first higher educational institution for music in Germany by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847).

It is the most tradition-steeped music education institution in Germany and one of the most prestigious conservatories in Europe. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy worked in Leipzig for a total of 12 years and is considered one of the most important Leipzig Gewandhaus Kapellmeisters. He fundamentally reformed musical life in Leipzig.

The photo shows the building at Grassistraße 1887, inaugurated in 8, with its neo-Renaissance façade.

In addition, the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre (HMT) has a large second building at Dittrichring 21. Just as it did at the time of its founding, the HMT functions as a training ground for talent, including for the famous Gewandhausorchester, which is one of the leading orchestras in the world.
Around 1200 young people from all over the world study at the university in 12 different disciplines and institutes.

The HMT offers around 600 public events a year with concerts, operas, plays, jazz events and much more.
