The permanent exhibition “Signs – Books – Networks: From Cuneiform to Binary Code” offers an experience of 5.000 years of media history and spans the period from the emergence of writing to the printing press with movable type to the digital network world. The associated virtual exhibition at mediengeschichte.dnb.de makes the museum's themes accessible online. More specific topics on book and media culture are shown in changing exhibitions at the German National Library.
