Close to the "pottery town" of Kohren-Salis stands Saxony's best preserved Romanesque fortification: Gnandstein Castle near Leipzig. The von Einsiedel family lived here from the 14th century until the end of the Second World War - without ever letting go of the castle key. Keep, kennel, battlements, shield wall, palace: the fortress high above the Wyhra is a dream made of stone for medieval enthusiasts. When climbing up into the keep or in the late Gothic chapel, guests can still truly feel the spirit of ancient times. An old legend reinforces the medieval aura: to this day, an undiscovered treasure is said to be hidden on the castle grounds. Treasures that have already been found from seven centuries can be admired in the exhibition at Gnandstein Castle.
app "Experience the Castle Country" guests can go on an interactive multimedia tour. In it, Knight Heinrich Hildebrandt von Einsiedel gives fascinating insights into his family history and brings paintings to life with augmented reality.
