Today's GRASSI Museum for Applied Arts was opened in 1874 as the second German museum of its kind. The building owes its name to the merchant and patron Franz Dominic Grassi. The (new) Grassi Museum, built between 1925 and 1929, with its green courtyards and the park-like Johannisfriedhof cemetery, is a place of inspiration, peace and relaxation in the heart of the city of Leipzig.
The museum accompanies children, young people and adults on their discovery tours through 3.000 years of art and cultural history. The
free media guide, which guides visitors through the permanent exhibition. Visitors can create their own tours, discover the highlights of the collection, or take a rallies through the museum. Two separate tours are available for children, offering a playful introduction to the museum. The media guide is available in German and English, and there is also a version for blind and visually impaired people, as well as in sign language and easy language.
As a place of inspiration and education, the museum offers a variety of
Events and projects. For families, there are museum festivals, family Sundays, and intergenerational activities. A special highlight for families is the annual GRASSIFEST in September, with creative workshops, guided tours, rallies, and games. During school time,
