The Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts offers students various diploma courses.
The Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) is one of the oldest art academies in Germany and is based in Leipzig. It has a history that goes back more than 200 years and was influenced in part by Goethe, who taught at the academy in his time. Between 1887 and 1890 it received an impressive new building, and since 1950 the institution has borne its current name, the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts. Around 600 students are studying for diplomas in photography, painting/graphics, book art/graphic design and media art. In 2009, the master's degree course "Cultures of the Curatorial" was introduced, which represents a unique combination of application-oriented research practice and scientific reflection. The lecturers at the HGB have an international reputation and proven artistic work. In addition to masters of the New Leipzig School such as Neo Rauch, the university in Leipzig's music district has produced countless other talents.
