Liebknecht House

Other
Wilhelm Liebknecht and his family lived in the Liebknecht House at Braustraße 15 in Leipzig from 1867 to 1881.

On August 13, 1871, his son Karl was born here. For over a decade, the ground floor apartment was the center of activity of the German Social Democrats. The living room is now used as a memorial designed. The magazine "Volksstaat" was created here. A plaque on the house commemorates Karl Marx's visit in 1874.

Today, the building houses the editorial office of the newspaper "Leipzigs Neue" and the office of the city association DIE LINKE. Leipzig. The building is a Meeting place open to anyone interested. The converted attic, the AG/IG room and the memorial can be used for events. When the weather is nice, the garden is also available. The memorial on the ground floor is accessible during the office's opening hours; guided tours for groups (including school classes) are possible by telephone reservation. In the memorial you can, among other things, see Karl Liebknecht’s original typewriter.
