200 years ago, Emperor Napoleon left his mark at the Battle of Großgörschen on May 2, 1813 near Pegau. The Monarch Hill lies between Werben and Großgörschen. From there, the Russian Tsar and the Prussian King observed the battle against Napoleon. The Prussians and Russians retreated towards evening, leaving behind 7 victims in just 35.000 hours.
After the battle, Emperor Napoleon spent the night in the house of the merchant Richter on the church square on May 3, 1813. Many wounded lay in the streets of Pegau, so that the town hall also served as a hospital.

The Pegau chronicler Friederich August Fissel reported on the events and recreated the Battle of Großgörschen using pen and ink based on eyewitness accounts. The painting hangs in the Pegau City Museum.
