The Museum of Printing Leipzig provides an insight into the more than 500-year history of the printing art of the book and publishing city of Leipzig. As an authentic site of industrial culture, the Museum of Printing displays around 100 functioning machines and presses for historical casting, typesetting and printing techniques. The combination of a production workshop and a museum makes it possible to experience 500 years of printing history.
As part of the Saxon Route of Industrial Heritage, the museum is one of the 51 most important sites of industrial heritage in Saxony as a whole. It preserves, maintains and conveys the artistic printing techniques of relief, intaglio and planographic printing, which are listed in the German UNESCO Commission's nationwide list of intangible cultural heritage. Exhibitions and workshops are held regularly.
The museum is located at Nonnenstraße 38 in the former industrial district of Plagwitz in a four-wing complex with a tradition of around 100 years as a printing workshop. The facade of the building facing Nonnenstraße is today one of the rare examples of Art Deco in Leipzig's cityscape.
