Penig Town Hall
Penig's town hall was first documented in 1367. The original building was largely constructed of stone. By 1545, however, it had become so dilapidated that a new one had to be built. In 1545/46, the current town hall was built in the Saxon Early Renaissance style, featuring an ornate, three-part main portal made of Rochlitz porphyry, bearing the town's coat of arms and the coats of arms of the burgraves of Leisnig.
In 1632, it fell victim to a major city fire and was subsequently rebuilt. A spire tower and the clock mechanism were added. In 1711, it burned down again to its foundations and was rebuilt in its original form in 1717. The ridge turret and weather vane date from this period. The dormer gables were not added until 1922.
After six years of renovation and construction, the town hall was opened to its intended purpose as a representative and service building on October 30.10.1999, XNUMX.
