Wagner was 17 years old when his music was first performed in Leipzig at the Comödienhaus on Christmas 1830: the Overture in B-flat major. The monument, which was inaugurated in January 1983, bears a bronze bust of Wagner. It is a cast of the bust that the Leipzig sculptor Max Klinger (1857-1920) created in 1905 for the unfinished Wagner monument.
