Schloss Rochlitz – Fat, One-Eyed, Revolutionary

The towers "Lichte Jupe" and "Dinstere Jupe" have stood in Rochlitz for more than 600 years. Rochlitz Castle was built in the 10th century as a castle to secure victory over the West Slavs. Princes later ruled between warlike sieges. But Rochlitz Castle also experienced brighter times: Dedo von Groitzsch, known as "the Fat", promoted the settlement of the Rochlitz region. Margrave Wilhelm the One-Eyed had the castle converted into a residential palace. Duchess Elisabeth of Saxony paved the way for the Reformation during the Schmalkaldic War. The lovingly restored princely house with its stately rooms and magnificent dining hall is particularly impressive. In an interactive exhibition, young and old experience the history of the "forgotten Wettins".

App "Experience the Castle Country" Guests can experience an interactive multimedia tour through the historic rooms of the castle. The famous Elisabeth von Rochlitz also appears in augmented reality and shows a secret hiding place.

The Schlösserland app guarantees a special excursion experience tailored to your individual taste with culinary insider tips, cycling and hiking tours or the best photo spots for a perfect day at Rochlitz Castle. The app is available free of charge in Apple App Store or by Google Playstore is available for storage, management and analysis.

castle country map Guests can visit Saxony's most beautiful palaces, castles and gardens whenever they want. And the best thing is: you save money.
