Scheibenholz GmbH & Co. KG has been operating the racecourse in Leipzig's Auwald since 2012. The racecourse was already so popular that it was redesigned at the beginning of the 19th century due to the constantly increasing number of visitors. In addition to a new grandstand, a restaurant was also added. The inauguration was celebrated on May 25, 1907.
After severe destruction during the two world wars, thanks to the energy of many club members and volunteers, the first German post-war race day was held in Leipzig's Scheibenholz on August 12, 1945. Leipzig thus set the signal for the revival of horse racing in the four occupation zones.
Today, the racecourse is a permanent fixture in Leipzig's sports, leisure and cultural landscape. Every year on May 1st, thousands of visitors flock to the traditional Aufgalopp, the traditional opening race of the season. The race days are organized by the LRRS e. V. At least as popular are the fashion race day, the international race day, summer cinema, fun sports and running events, concerts, and antique and flea markets. In addition, the racecourse and the seating area can be rented as an event location.
