Schmannewitz Farmers' Museum

museum/collection
The Schmannewitz Farm Museum showcases the rural life and working environment of the Dahlener Heide in its historic three-sided farmstead.
In the idyllic heathland village of Schmannewitz, the Farm Museum invites visitors on a journey back in time to the era of small-scale farming. Housed in a traditional three-sided farmstead, some 3.000 exhibits vividly illustrate the working and living conditions of rural trades, crafts, and beekeeping. Lovingly furnished rooms, a kitchen with a historic wood-fired oven, bedrooms, and a washhouse bring the daily life of past generations to life. A 19th-century laundry cart and an old wood-fired oven are particularly worth seeing.

Large agricultural implements such as ladder wagons, field carts, and threshing machines are on display in the former barn. The former farmhouse houses rotating special exhibitions, including those on local history or Grandma's school days, and a historical classroom. A working demonstration forge completes the museum experience.

On selected dates, special events such as the spring festival and the harvest festival take place. Historical work techniques like bread baking, blacksmithing, threshing, spinning, or butter churning are demonstrated, bringing rural history to life in an impressive way.
