Schumann House
The advantages are described under "Good to know/Price information".
The former home of the Schumann couple includes a permanent exhibition that provides information about the lives of the two famous musicians.
Welcome to the Schumanns' home - the first museum for a musical couple! Clara and Robert spent their happy first four years of marriage in the classicist house on Inselstrasse. Here you can discover the Schumanns' time in Leipzig with all your senses:
Visitors can sit with Mendelssohn in the historic Schumann Hall or hear Clara's hand resonate through a sound installation. The marriage diaries created here and the song cycle "Liebesfrühling" (Spring of Love) they composed together guide visitors through the museum and show the couple's modernity up to the present day.
On the occasion of the 200th birthday von Clara, the museum was redesigned and expanded in 2019: the exhibition curated by Dr. Beatrix Borchard, which opened on 14.09.2019 in the Schumannhaus, is under the motto "Artist Marriage Experiment" and for the first time focuses on the life of an artist couple together. The museum in the Schumann House offers something very special for children - the play-listening area, which combines nature, play and music. During the holidays, the Schumann House offers children holiday games where they can, for example, build an orchestra out of everyday objects or make Clara and Robert paper dolls.
A public tour takes place every first Sunday of the month at 14:00 p.m. But even without a tour, visitors can use Audioguides, also specifically for visually impaired people, completely individually tailored multifaceted tour experience.
The digital offerings The Schumann House can also be experienced beyond the physical museum visit! Augmented reality app "Equality in Art" questions role models, marriage and family planning, especially in art, based on the marriage of Robert and Clara Schumann. The app not only looks into the past, but also draws comparisons to modern partnerships.
With the CLARO Soundwalk In the Leipzig Notenspuren app you can discover Leipzig on the trail of the Schumanns. Along the most important places in the lives of the artist couple you will learn interesting details about Clara and Robert and hear selected compositions by the two.
A special event highlight takes place annually in September in the Schumann-Haus and many other Leipzig music houses: The festival WITH SPIRIT presents every autumn the stars of the international chamber music scene.
