The restored priest's house with the exhibition "Sound and Faith", which highlights the interplay between the Reformation and music.
The lavishly restored Priest's House is home to the exhibition "Sound and Faith," which explores the interplay between the Reformation and music and depicts the lives of Johann Walter and Georg Spalatin. Media stations and a children's trail make every visit an entertaining experience. The late Gothic Priest's House was built in 1493/94 and is now the only surviving priest's house of the 15 houses in Torgau at the time. Since 1525, the house was owned by Georg Spalatin, a court preacher and prince's tutor. As a priest, he held six sung masses a week before the altar. The house was then located in the so-called Schlossfreiheit (castle freedom) between the castle and the market square. With the help of the "Förderverein für Denkmalpflege in der Stadt Torgau eV" (Förderverein for Monument Preservation in the City of Torgau), the Priest's House was preserved in its original condition through numerous renovations starting in 2011. It is now the best and most authentically preserved priest's house in Saxony.
