Peter's Church
St. Peter's Church, an Evangelical Lutheran parish church, is located in the southern center of Leipzig on Gaudigplatz. Its foundation stone was laid in 1882. Today, because there is no longer any fixed seating, it is used as a flexible event space. The wide nave is used not only for church services, but also for concerts, theater performances, exhibitions, conferences and even events of the Leipzig Wave-Gotik-Treffen.The neo-Gothic building was seriously damaged in an air raid in 1943. As a result, the roof was completely destroyed and the chapels partially destroyed. The facade, windows and interior rooms also suffered greatly.
After extensive clearing and repairs, the church's elaborate furnishings with colored leaded glass windows are particularly noteworthy today. These are considered to be a uniquely restored cycle of colored glass painting in Saxony. At 88 meters, St. Peter's Church also has the highest church tower in the city of Leipzig. There are four bronze bells in the tower. The width of the church's central nave is also impressive; with a span of 17 meters, it even exceeds that of Cologne Cathedral.
