Stöntzsch observation tower
The observation tower with its church-like roof, its facade constantly reshaped by the wind, serves as a reminder of the fate of the village of Stöntzsch – a place inhabited for nine centuries. In the early 1960s, the Profen open-cast mine reached the village, and it was ultimately destroyed. The "church tower" is a symbol of the community and restores the historical visual connection to the church in Pegau. The top platform, at a height of 19,5 meters, offers a panoramic view: from the tower's summit, one can see the Leipzig New Lake District on one side and the Profen open-cast mine on the other.
