In the heart of Borna, the Volksplatz open-air stage invites visitors to enjoy culture under the open sky. With around 5.000 seats and Europe's largest permanent film screen, the Volksplatz is a unique venue for unforgettable events such as concerts, comedy shows, summer cinema, and family festivals.
Originally built between 1933 and 35 as a Thingplatz (assembly place) for the Thing movement, the Volksplatz (People's Square) is one of the largest open-air stages in Central Germany. Alphaville, Matthias Reim, Howard Carpendale, Albert Hammond, Torsten Sträter, Olaf Schubert, Johann König, Oli. P, Lisa Eckhart, and many more have performed on its stage. The Leipzig Symphony Orchestra also regularly delights audiences as part of the city's "Rock in Symphony" concert series. During the summer months, the Volksplatz Association presents films curated by the association on an impressive 28 x 18 meter screen under the open sky. The association also organizes regular family events such as Halloween, après-ski, and Christmas carol singing (first held in 2025).
