You don't necessarily have to go to the sea to eat good fish, because you can get it in Wermsdorf too! Fishing has been a long-standing tradition here for 500 years. From September to November, the 27 ponds of the Wermsdorf pond farm are bustling with activity when the carp season is in full swing.
A good 200 tons of freshwater fish are caught in the inland waters every year. In addition to mirror carp, scale carp, grass carp and silver carp, sturgeons, pike, catfish and zander are also native here. They are sold fresh or smoked as regional products or delivered frozen to retailers and supermarkets throughout Germany. In addition to the fish specialties, caviar, which has been made from sturgeon eggs since 2012, has also enjoyed popularity across Germany.
If you would like to try the delicacies yourself or watch the traditional fishing, we recommend the “Horstsee fishing” which takes place every year in October.
