Dommitzsch City and Local History Museum
The local history museum of the town of Dommitzsch was rebuilt in the house of the former Mohrenapotheke on Torgauer Strasse between 1929 and 1980, continuing the tradition of the first museum in 1985. Between 1997 and 1999, the contents of the exhibitions were extensively revised and redesigned. The house itself, probably built in 1716 in the half-timbered style, is considered one of the oldest in the town of Dommitzsch and is a listed building. Today it is not only a museum, but also a conference and work location for the "Dommitzscher Geschichtsverein", which is also responsible for the content of the museum. Currently, in 13 rooms with a total of 300 m² of exhibition space, the town's history is illustrated in a self-explanatory form using historical and reconstructed exhibits, photos, graphics and display boards, and the local, social, economic and ecological structure and development of the town of Dommitzsch are presented. The basis for this was selected documents and archives as well as chronicles of the city's history.
