Rötha City and Local History Museum
The Rötha City and Local History Museum vividly illustrates the history of the town and its region from prehistory and early history to the recent past. The museum focuses on crafts, agriculture, and especially lignite mining, which profoundly shaped the townscape and society. Historical documents, photographs, and everyday objects bring the lives of previous generations to life.
The museum is housed in the former municipal prison, built in 1910 and used until 1953, which itself represents an important historical artifact. Since its opening in 2001, the museum has been continuously developed by the Rötha City and Local History Association with the support of the city and is today a central place for remembrance, education, and cultural life in Rötha.
Due to its central location, a visit to the museum can easily be combined with a walk through the city center or a visit to other attractions such as Rötha Castle Park.
