Con spirito – The Leipzig Chamber Music Festival
Con spirito is an annual chamber music festival held in Leipzig, organized by the Schumann House Leipzig. It builds on the city's rich musical history, which, since the 19th century, shaped by the St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig, the work of Johann Sebastian Bach, and the establishment of the first civic concert orchestra, has transformed Leipzig into one of Europe's most important cultural centers.
Con spirito's program features chamber music concerts with renowned musicians and young ensembles. Alongside well-known works, the repertoire also includes rarely performed compositions and thematic focuses. The concerts take place in Leipzig's European Heritage sites, which are part of the Leipzig Music Trail and were awarded the European Heritage Label in 2018. These include the Old Nikolai School, the Bach Museum, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Grieg Meeting Place, the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy", the Mendelssohn House, the Schumann House, and St. Thomas Church.
