This Renaissance building from the middle of the 16th century was given its current appearance between 1666 and 1668. Parts of the interior, such as the oak spiral staircase and baroque stucco ceilings, are still preserved today and are a visitor attraction. Concerts and readings are held in the arcade courtyard, which is enclosed on four sides. You will find a wide range of prehistory and early history, city and cultural history, city crafts and folklore. Noteworthy are a plague cart from 1607, Napoleon's cup from 1813, the hand-operated syringe from 1803 and the original duffel bag from Ringelnatz. The poet Joachim Ringelnatz (real name: Hans Gustav Bötticher) was born in Wurzen in 1883 and died in Berlin in 1934. His collections of poems are still very well known today: The snuffbox (1912) and Kuttel Daddeldu (1920).
